Nursery Bag Essentials: Your Checklist

1. Spare Clothes (Always Pack More Than You Think)

Nursery days can get messy, in the best possible way. From painting to puddle jumping, a full change of clothes is a must.

What to include:

  • 2–3 tops or vests

  • 2–3 bottoms (leggings, joggers, etc.)

  • Socks

  • Underwear (if toilet training)

Many nurseries recommend multiple changes as spills and accidents are common during play and activities

2. Nappies, Wipes and Cream (If Needed)

If your child is still in nappies, you’ll usually need to provide supplies.

Pack:

  • Nappies

  • Baby wipes

  • Nappy cream

  • Nappy bags

Some nurseries provide these, but always check in advance as policies vary

3. Weather-Appropriate Clothing

Outdoor play happens in all seasons, so it’s important to be prepared.

Depending on the weather:

  • Waterproof coat or puddle suit

  • Wellies or sturdy shoes

  • Hat and gloves (winter)

  • Sun hat and sun cream (summer)

Nurseries encourage outdoor play year-round, so having the right gear is key

4. Drinks and Feeding Essentials

Depending on your child’s age and nursery routine, you may need to provide food or drinks.

This might include:

  • Water bottle or sippy cup

  • Bottles of milk or formula

  • Packed lunch or snacks (if required)

Always check what your nursery provides before packing food items

5. Comforter or Favourite Item

Starting nursery can be a big transition, and a familiar item can really help.

Ideas include:

  • A small teddy

  • Comfort blanket

  • Dummy (if used)

A comforter can help children feel safe and settled during the day

6. Any Medical Items

If your child has allergies or needs medication, speak to the nursery team first.

You may need:

  • Prescribed medication

  • Creams or inhalers

  • Written instructions or forms

Always hand these directly to staff rather than leaving them in the bag

What My Ohana Nurseries Provide

At My Ohana, we work closely with parents to make sure every child’s individual needs are met. Here’s what we provide to support your little one throughout their day:

  • Milk Feeds - We ask parents to provide breast milk (already prepared in bottles) or formula (in cartons or pre-measured). Our team will prepare feeds as needed and serve them at the right temperature. Please bring enough sterilised bottles for the day, and an insulated bag if needed.

  • Meals & Snacks - All of our nurseries provide a full daily menu, including breakfast, lunch, dinner, and snacks. We work with catering partners to ensure meals are balanced and can cater for all dietary requirements.

  • Nappies & Changing - You’re welcome to bring your preferred nappies, wipes, and creams in a labelled bag. We ask that children arrive in a clean nappy, and if they’re toilet training, to bring plenty of spare clothes.

  • Sun Safety - In warmer months, please apply sun cream before arrival. If your child needs reapplying during the day, provide a labelled bottle and ensure consent is given. A sun hat and cool, comfortable clothing are also recommended.

Our aim is simple. To make sure your child feels safe, happy, and cared for, while giving you peace of mind that everything is taken care of.

Top Tips for Packing a Nursery Bag

  1. Label everything - From clothes to bottles, labelling helps prevent items getting lost or mixed up with others.

  2. Pack the night before - It saves time and reduces stress during busy mornings.

  3. Keep it simple - Only pack what’s needed. Most nurseries are well-equipped and will guide you.

  4. Choose an easy-to-clean bag - Nursery bags can get messy, so wipeable materials are a win.

  5. Check your nursery’s policy - Every nursery is slightly different, so always follow their guidance.
